[WEEKLY IDOL] Zion. T

Read on UnitedKpop.

Zion. T (real name Kim Hae Sol) is a hip hop and R&B singer. He has been active since 2011 and he is signed under The Black Label, a sub-label of YG Entertainment.

He has released one studio album entitled ‘Red Light’ and one EP called ‘Mirror ball’. Even if you are unfamiliar with Zion. T himself, you have likely heard of him from his numerous collaborations with other artists. He has worked with Korean rappers and hip hop artists like: Dok2, Simon D, Primary, Gaeko, Swings and Crush. He has also worked with many K-Pop artists, including: PSY, G-Dragon and SHINee’s Jonghyun.

As is often common with hip hop artists and rappers, Zion. T had a more cult following for years, before hitting mainstream success in around 2014. After this time he recorded a track (‘Kiss Me’) for the popular 2014 drama series ‘Pinocchio’.

The singer has not made a great deal of variety programme appearances, but in 2015 he took part in ‘Infinite Challenge’ and performed a song entitled ‘$ponser’ alongside the programme member Haha. Before joining record producer Teddy Park’s label Black Label just this year, he was part of the well-known hip hop label Amoeba Culture.

Zion. T has both a very distinctive voice and style. His fairly high tone pairs well with many different artists’ vocals - adding another layer to the tracks. Many of his songs have a very chilled and smooth R&B style. He often wears brightly coloured clothes or suits and a wide-rimmed fedora hat (a style that is reminiscent of the zoot suits popular around the 1950s). He often finishes his look with his trademark large lens or circle lens sunglasses. The R&B singer has also been nominated for and won many awards, including three at 2015’s ‘Mnet Asian Music Awards’! If you want to get to know Zion. T a little more, here are a few MVs:
